    Course components are delivered as printed products: Senior Fitness Test, Second Edition Print CE Course, leads you through the Senior Fitness Test battery, a set of field assessments for evaluating physical attributes that older adults need in order to perform daily activities. Included in the test are national norms based on data collected from 7,000 adults ages 60 to 94 and expanded information on modifying test protocols for individuals with limitations resulting from disease-specific conditions. The DVD presents visual demonstrations of each test, along with modifications. Included with this continuing education course are ready-to-use materials, such as reproducible forms, large-print instructions to post in testing stations, and large versions of performance charts.

    After completing the Senior Fitness Test, Second Edition course, you will be able to do the following:
    • Identify the fitness parameters required for functional mobility.
    • Describe functional activities associated with muscle strength, aerobic endurance, flexibility, and agility and dynamic balance.
    • Recognize the functional fitness framework as it relates to fitness parameters, functional behaviors, and activity goals.
    • Describe test validity and reliability.
    • Interpret test scores.
    At the conclusion of the course, students will take a continuing education exam to receive credit through participating organizations.

    About the Author

    Roberta E. Rikli, PhD, is professor and chair of the division of kinesiology and health promotion at California State University in Fullerton and is cofounder of the LifeSpan Wellness Program at Fullerton. For the past 20 years, Dr. Rikli has done extensive work in physical performance assessment with particular focus on senior fitness. She has published numerous scientific papers on her work and has made more than 100 presentations at conferences and workshops in the United States, Germany, France, Finland, China, and Japan. She serves on the editorial boards of three scientific journals and is a regular reviewer for several others.

    She holds professional memberships in numerous organizations, including the International Society for Aging and Physical Activity; the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD); the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM); and the American Academy for Kinesiology and Physical Education. Dr. Rikli lives in Orange, California, and enjoys hiking and playing tennis and golf.

    C. Jessie Jones, PhD, is a professor in the division of kinesiology and health promotion, director of the Lifespan Wellness Clinic, codirector of the Center for Successful Aging, and past director of gerontology programs at California State University at Fullerton (CSUF) and University of New Orleans. She has an extensive background in gerontology, health, and exercise science.

    Professor Jones is nationally and internationally known in the field of exercise science and aging for her research, program design, and curriculum development. She has received several research grants exceeding $1 million, and her work has been published in numerous professional journals and cited in more than 100 popular newspapers and magazines. Dr. Jones has conducted over 100 professional presentations at conferences across the United States and abroad, including China, Taiwan, France, and Germany. Most recently, she has coauthored two books and videos on senior fitness assessment and programming, has coauthored a balance and mobility training manual and video, and is editing a textbook to prepare senior fitness specialists.

    In addition to her extensive research agenda, Dr. Jones has received distinguished awards for her research, teaching, and community service, including the Distinguished Faculty Award for the College of Human Development and Community Service. Dr. Jones is currently investigating the long-term effectiveness of a community-based balance and mobility training program in 18 senior centers.
